Prepping, Homesteading and Survival Gear
I have put together a list of several items that could be useful in your goals to be more prepared and self reliant. I have not used this gear extensively or in many cases I have not use it at all. It is a starting point and you may want to go a different direction all together. I have broken it down into sections to help you browse.
As I get these items and use them, I will write a review to give my thoughts. I would like to post some aquaponics/hydroponics items also, but I have very little experience there. I would also suggest a knife, but it is a personal item that I don’t feel comfortable saying one is more important than another. I used to carry 3 or 4 knives while deployed, all with a different task.

My reviews for gear I own can be found here:

I suggest you build your own first aid kit. If you don't have the time, or the knowledge to decide what to put in one, check out this 100 piece First Aid kit, already built.
To build your own First Aid kit, or to learn more about first aid in a survival situation, check out this book.
511 makes excellent gear. They make different size packs for either a bugout bag, or a smaller pack to keep in your trunk or in your car to be ready for what the day brings.

Building your own bugout back or survival kit allows you to know exactly what is in your bag and where it is. Some items are not as useful in different climates/environments. It is better to build your bag for your situation. But if you don't want to do that, here is a bag to start with.
A personal knife is an important choice. Once again it depends on your daily situation and environment. This book can help you decide which is right for you.
